Introduction:
----------------------------------------
The Cozy Cabin was our first new environment created for Painting VR. It depicts an artistic recreational space in a hand crafted cabin.

Description:
----------------------------------------
Once again, we started with an extensive moodboard, which we all streamlined our ideas into, and started iterating with blockout scenes to establish the rough shape of the room. We settled down on a final design thanks to the iterative design skills of Matthias. This portrays a rectangular layout with an asymmetric extension both on the first and second floor. On the ground floor this creates the cosy corner with moody lighting and large windows to view the outside. On the second floor, the extension gave way to the bay window area, a small side structure with a 180° viewing angle, where the player can fit their paint setup and paint, in case they prefer to work in a less confined space with an outside view.
The rustic appeal and warm complementary colors come together to communicate our adapted art style, which was being simultaneously developed with our environments. The outside environment was initially a lush forest, which was later expanded with the Environment Switcher device, introducing the Snowy Mountain landscape.

My personal role in the project:
----------------------------------------
I was responsible for creating and managing an active art moodboard, which was reviewed and expanded upon by fellow colleague Gert and Matthias. Using this moodboard we stayed in close communication with the rest of the team to design and produce all the 3D content in the scene. My main occupation for this process was first modeling and texturing the building structure such as the walls, roof, and wooden window frames.
I was also responsible for making the 180° viewing angle bay window area on the second floor. I also made the supporting structure for the roof, while Matthias made the railing and support beams for the floor. Getting these details right was key to establishing the cosy, warm wooden feeling of the second floor gallery. I also made the vertical structure of the balcony, like the pillars and their head beams, railings, shutters, stairs, window frames, as well as the makeshift water collector tank in the corner.
I was also tasked with several smaller props and flavor objects, such as furniture, cables, sockets, lamps and light bulbs.
I was also responsible for creating the Baked Global Illumination for the environment using Unity’s Bakery Lightmapper. Gert’s work was essential to the success of the scene, especially when it came to color grading, post processing, stylizing textures and assets in accordance to our art style, as well as refining the intractable painting tools.
We made a good team and had some genuine fun while we created this. During this process I also extensively refined my professional knowledge of working with Unity and the Oculus VR Headset + it's Development software.
